The Hilton suite of cards continues its makeover mania with the latest refresh, this time to the . Just like the October 2023 redesigns of both the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card and the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card]s, Hilton’s only small business card is swapping out the low annual fee and adding in new use-it-or-lose-it credits.

Here’s what’s changed:

  • The annual fee is now $195, up from $95.
  • The welcome offer is now 175,000 Hilton Honors bonus points after spending $8,000 in eligible purchases in the first six months of opening the card. Terms apply. Valid from March 28 through June 5, 2024. The most recent welcome offer was 130,000 points after spending $3,000 in the first three months of opening the card.
  • The rewards rate is still 12X Hilton Honors Bonus Points for each dollar of eligible purchases spent directly with a hotel or resort within the Hilton portfolio, but other spending has changed to 5X Hilton Honors Bonus Points on other purchases made using the card on the first $100,000 in purchases each calendar year, and 3X points thereafter. Previously, non-Hilton purchases earned 6X at U.S. gas stations, on U.S. purchases for shipping, on wireless telephone services purchased directly from U.S. service providers, on flights booked directly with airlines or with Amex Travel, on car rentals booked directly from select car rental companies, and at U.S. restaurants and 3X on all other eligible purchases.
  • The card now offers up to $240 back each year on eligible Hilton purchases made on the card, with up to $60 in statement credits per quarter. There were no Hilton credits previously.
  • Priority Pass Select lounge access is going away. The date it ends will depend on when you enrolled. For those who enrolled on or before June 30, 2023, the benefit lasts through June 30, 2024. And for those who enrolled between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024, the benefit lasts through March 31, 2025.
  • Owning the card includes complimentary National Car Rental Emerald Club Executive® status. Enrollment required. Terms apply.

Other attributes that have remained the same include:

  • No additional fee for employee cards.
  • Complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status, with perks like an 80% bonus on base points you earn on every stay, and space-available room upgrades at select properties.
  • Ability to upgrade to Hilton Honors Diamond status through the end of the next calendar year by spending $40,000 on eligible purchases on the card in a calendar year. Diamond status includes benefits like space-available room upgrades, executive lounge access and a 100% bonus on points, on every stay, premium Wi-Fi at select properties, and more.

Over the past few  years, American Express cards have emulated the pattern set by popular HGTV renovation shows: Make some surface changes and jack up the price. This may be an ideal scenario for aspiring home flippers or credit card issuers, but it’s not always the best news for consumers. Are the changes a net positive? That depends.

Hilton credit cards are ideal for Hilton loyalists. And the Hilton Honors Business card is designed for Hilton lovers who value earning rewards to redeem for free hotel nights with the chain. For someone who travels several times a year and prefers to stay at a Hilton property, the new quarterly $60 credits are a no-brainer and can easily make up for the increased $195 annual fee. But for those who travel less often and are hoping to bank points over time for a future hotel redemption, the card’s credits and increased annual fee may not be as easy to swallow.
