MANILA, Philippines—Denice Zamboanga has a shot at making history at ONE 167 and Joshua Pacio has no doubt his compatriot can pull it off.

Zamboanga will finally get her hands on Stamp Fairtex for the ONE women’s atomweight championship on June 8 at Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. Zamboanga and Fairtex were supposed to fight last March.

Should Zamboanga reign victorious, she will be the first-ever Filipino female fighter to win an MMA world title.

“I have big belief that Denice will become a champion, my trust in her is 100 percent. It’s her time,” said Pacio, who reclaimed the ONE strawweight belt from Jarred Brooks via disqualification two months ago, in Filipino.

“Just go out there and give it your all. Whatever happens, put your faith in God and there will be a new champion.”

Pacio also said that Zamboanga’s win can serve as a statement for Filipino female fighters all around the world.

“This will be a statement that if men can do it, women can as well, as long as you put in the work and you have discipline and faith.”

“I know that in her victory, more female athletes will be given motivation.”
