Byway raises £5M to expand its flight-free travel tech

Byway, a startup focused on enabling flight-free travel, has raised £5
million in an oversubscribed Series A round.

The round was led by Heartcore Capital, with participation from Eka
Ventures and several individuals who had invested in the company in the past.

Byway said it will use the funding to accelerate development of its
technology, JourneyAI, which it said is the world’s first completely flight-free
holiday planner. The system combines train, boat and bus transportation and accommodation
options with destination content to create multi-stop, personalized trips that take
travelers away from areas that are traditionally overcrowded with tourists.

Founded in 2020, the company currently operates in the United Kingdom and
Europe and said it will use the funding to expand geographically.

“It was a delight to experience such overwhelming interest from investors
enthusiastic about the future of flight-free travel when raising our Series A,”
said Cat Jones, founder and CEO of Byway.

“I’m thrilled that in Heartcore and Eka we’ve found partners who believe
in the joy of journey-based holidays and the potential of JourneyAI to change
travel for the better.”

Last September TUI
announced a partnership with Byway
to offer flight-free travel as part of
the relaunch of its First Choice brand.
