Uber adds AI chat powered by OpenAI’s GPT4o to help drivers embrace electric vehicles

Uber is taking the next step in its sustainability strategy,
with new options for consumers and an AI-powered chatbot to help drivers gets
answers to their questions about switching to an electric vehicle (EV).

The rideshare platform shared the updates Tuesday at its
Go-Get Zero event in London.

The new AI Assistant in the driver app is powered by OpenAI’s
GPT-4o and will launch in the United States early next year with expansion to
other markets after that.

The rideshare platform is also launching an “EV
mentorship” program to connect experienced drivers with electric vehicles with
those who want to learn more about them, and it is partnering with Octopus
Energy and BYD to offer free EV chargers to 1,000 Uber drivers.

In 2020 Uber announced plans to be a zero-emission mobility
platform by 2040, and it has been increasing
the number of electric vehicles on its platform
every year since, with 182,000 EVs now available.

In its updates for consumers, Uber announced it now has
enough electric vehicles drivers on its platform in more than 40 cities
globally to make an EV-only option available in the app in those locations.
