PhocusWire is pleased to announce that editor in chief Mitra Sorrells is stepping up to become senior vice president of content within Phocuswright.
Sorrells, who joined PhocusWire in 2018 as senior reporter, took over as editor in May 2022. Since then she has developed and grown the media brand, raised its profile as an expert voice in the travel technology industry and strengthened its relationship with other brands and publications within the wider Northstar Travel Group.
Linda Fox, senior reporter at Phocuswire since 2018, becomes executive editor and will oversee the day-to-day operation of the travel technology media brand.
In early August, Derek Catron, PhocusWire’s news editor for nearly two years, announced plans to devote his time to his fiction-writing career. Catron is the author of five novels.
Fox will work alongside senior reporter Morgan Hines, who joined a year ago, as well as a replacement for Catron.
The promotions of Sorrells and Fox reflect wider changes as Phocuswright positions itself for more growth, on the heels of the departure of Charuta Fadnis, senior vice president for research and product strategy.
Fadnis joined Phocuswright just before the pandemic and was responsible for steering the organization through the challenges of taking our global events virtual and back to in person over the period. She also devised and developed new products and ensured high standards were maintained across Phocuswright Research.
David Juman, senior director for editorial and research at Phocuswright, has been promoted to vice president of content and sizing. And senior analyst Madeline List assumes the role of manager of research and special projects.
Phocuswright managing director Pete Comeau said, “Our brand strength is rooted in high-quality content, from in-depth research to daily industry news to inspiring content on Phocuswright Conference stages. With Mitra at the helm of our content strategy, Phocuswright is poised to continue delivering insightful and innovative content to the travel industry. The promotions of David, Madeline and Linda recognize the strong contributions they have made to the organization. We are well positioned for the future to deliver upon our mission of inspiring smart thinking.”
Bob Sullivan, president and chief commercial officer of Northstar Travel Group, added: “We are really excited about the future of the Phocuswright brand as we continue to evolve our products and services to align with the market and our customer needs. I am excited for Mitra, David, Linda and Madeline and the impact they will continue to have on the business, and I wish Charuta best of luck and thank her for her contributions.”
