Insured Nomads buys travel shopping Chrome app Peanut

Insurtech startup Insured Nomads has acquired travel shopping browser extension Peanut for an undisclosed sum.

Peanut, available as a free Google Chrome extension, helps travelers as they plan trips by offering real-time information on a destination’s COVID-19 requirements, visa rules and weather as well as details about a hotel’s history and a flight’s delay risk.

The extension, which is powered by data from the likes of Booking.com, Expedia and Google Flights, also quotes Insured Nomads insurance plans.

“At Insured Nomads, we help travelers move around the world as safely and smartly as possible, and that starts with booking,” says Insured Nomads CEO Andrew Jernigan.

“We acquired Peanut because it’s game-changing travel tech. Delivering this type of essential travel information has simply never been done before.”

Peanut’s co-founders, including CEO Brady Simpson, are alumni of LinkedIn, Meta and Google who discovered a need for real-time information while traveling during the pandemic.

“Having access to the right information and travel products, such as insurance, is vital to exploring the world or working remotely today. That’s why we created the tool during COVID-19,” Simpson says.

Adds co-founder and design lead Alex Lakas: “We named it Peanut because of the bite-sized packs of peanuts travelers receive on planes – they are free and synonymous with global travel.”

Founded in 2019, Insured Nomads combines insurance and technology to help remote workers, expats and adventure travelers live and work anywhere around the globe.
